Uploading methods

Upload your files through the browser, or drag and drop from your desktop. Any folder structure will remain intact. More uploading methods are FTP and KLASH Desktop App with Watch Folders.

Browser uploading

To upload files using browser upload or drag and drop:

  1. Navigate to the project folder where you want to upload the files.

  2. Click New file and select the files from your computer, or drag and drop the files straight into the project.

  3. Click on the green upload icon in the header to see the upload speed, percentage completion rate, and time remaining.

KLASH Desktop App with Watch Folders

With the KLASH Desktop App with Watch Folders, you can automatically upload files from your computer. After connecting a folder on KLASH to a local folder on your computer, any file placed in that folder will be automatically uploaded to your folder on KLASH.

Download the KLASH Desktop App for Mac, Windows, and Linux https://klash.studio/desktop.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed the app and logged in to your KLASH account, follow these steps to set up a Watch Folder for automatically transferring files from local to the cloud:

  1. On KLASH, choose the folder where you want files to be uploaded, or create a new one.

  2. Right-click the folder, and then Sync directory.

  3. Select a local folder on your computer to synchronize with. Here you can also tune the behaviour of the auto-upload feature.

  4. When you have pointed KLASH to a local folder, click the Sync button. KLASH will now monitor your local folder for new files and upload them. If your local folder already contains files, they will also be uploaded.

  5. When all files have been uploaded, a checkmark is displayed on top of the receiving folder on KLASH.

Advanced options

  • Delete local file after upload: Enabling this will delete the local file after it has been uploaded to KLASH. You can specify a delay between the completed upload and deletion.

  • Move file after upload: If you want to keep a collection of files that have been uploaded to KLASH somewhere locally, you can do so with this feature.

  • Stability threshold: This tunes the mechanism that watches your local folder for changes. Some applications, such as screen recorders, will continuously write to a file during a period of time. The stability threshold is the number of seconds of inactivity for which KLASH will wait before uploading a new file.

Note: Watch Folders does not keep the folder structure intact when transferring directories. The reason is that it's a one-way sync, and therefore KLASH does not know what is the folder structure in the synced folder on KLASH. To keep the folder structure intact upon uploading files, use drag and drop or FTP.

FTP uploading

This method requires you to have an FTP client, e.g. FileZilla. Set up an FTP connector by the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the left side menu, and click on the project that you want to connect to FTP.

  2. In the project menu, click Settings, FTP, and New account.

  3. Enter a name for the connector, and click Create. This will open the Account details modal.

  4. Copy the Host, Port, FTP username, and password into your FTP client, and then close the Account details modal. When your FTP client is connected, you can start uploading files. Any files added to your FTP client will automatically transfer to KLASH. Remember that it can take a short time for the files to appear on KLASH.

Advanced options

  • Exclude file types: This lets you exclude certain file types. For example, if you don’t want .exe files to be automatically uploaded you type in “exe” in the field. If you want to exclude multiple file types just put a space between them, for example, “exe wav mp3”.

  • Allow FTP to transfer files outside of the project: Files that are prefixed with a Transfer Code, such as A1B2C3_file.mp4, will be transferred to the specified folder upon upload. This option allows these files to be transferred to any folder outside of the project. To find the Transfer Code, click on a folder to select it and look in the details panel up to the right.

Automating workflows using Transfer Codes

With KLASH, you can create automated workflows for transferring files from your local production environment to KLASH in the cloud using Transfer Codes. The file appears in the right folder on KLASH and can be used together with Send to playback shortcuts in for example Avid Media Composer. Files with no or wrong Transfer Code end up in the Admin space, where your company admins can manually move the files to the right folders.

This will require that you contact KLASH support and cannot be done on your own. Contact us.
