Intro
Since 2008, Stiller Studios (formerly Forsberg & Co) has been at the forefront of virtual production in Sweden - pioneering the field long before it gained mainstream attention with shows like The Mandalorian (2019). Located on Lidingö, a scenic island district of Stockholm - the studio’s purpose-built facility has been home to an array of cutting-edge technologies dedicated to virtual production such as the Cyclops motion control system, complete with comprehensive green screen area and real-time engine integration (Unreal Engine).

In the summer of 2023, a passionate team consisting of ex-Stiller Studios employees founded Dextry Studios - taking up residence in the uniquely box-shaped facility. Driven by the ambition to elevate the facility’s production capabilities and collaborative tools to new heights - the team has spent the past 18 months reconstructing and expanding the motion capture stage to the largest in Sweden, revitalizing the motion control system - while also redefining the possibilities of remote production.

The first phase of reconstruction was completed at the end of 2024.
Discovering KLASH
During the process of refining production pipelines and reimagining the infrastructure - the team was introduced to Klash in the spring of 2024 - and the potential was immediately obvious; the entire production process could be streamlined with Klash at the core - making it a truly hybrid production space where physical and virtual collaboration seamlessly intersect. Dextry’s CEO Fredrik Darum recalls: "Within a few days, we had the system up and running - and we saw right away that this was the missing piece we'd been looking for."

Final phase of reconstruction is set for completion in summer 2025.
Impact of KLASH
Since adopting Klash, Dextry has seen significant improvements across its production process. This single tool has streamlined operations, replaced outdated and complex systems along with making the team work more effectively, even across global collaborations.
A Unified Production Pipeline
Before Klash, Dextry’s production relied on a mix of legacy, proprietary and off-the-shelf software that required a complicated setup to keep everything connected. This made the workflow clunky and difficult to manage. By switching entirely to Klash, the team now operates with a single, unified system. From virtual production using motion control to performance capture - this change has simplified the pipeline, reduced headaches, and allowed the team to focus on their work instead of troubleshooting software issues and managing complex systems.

In just a few simple steps, the studio can be transformed into a virtual production setup.
Improved Remote Collaboration
Klash has reshaped remote collaboration at Dextry. Team members and clients can now follow production processes in perfect sync, regardless of location. Fredrik Darum explains: “Everyone stays on the same page from start to finish. It’s completely changed how we work with clients worldwide.” Dextry now conducts complex motion and performance capture sessions with teams spread across countries, sharing control of virtual cameras and environments in real-time. This approach has impressed high-profile clients, including EA, DICE, and Liquid Swords.

A Big Impact for a Small Team
With just four team members, managing multiple systems used to be a challenge. Klash has helped consolidate all the tools and processes the team relies on, making everything easier to handle. This has had a noticeable impact on how effectively the team can manage their workload and deliver results. Collaboration with clients, external crews, and team members across different time zones is now seamless.
By using Klash, Dextry has been able to simplify its processes, improve teamwork, and take on bigger projects with confidence - all while keeping things manageable for its small but capable team. Each step of production - from the initial planning stages to the final delivery - is now faster and more efficient. Quality control has received a major boost as clear, detailed information is easy to access for everyone involved in production.
Intermission - The Swedish Factor
Dextry Studios’ evolution didn't happen in isolation. It builds on Sweden's distinctive technological heritage, shaped by far-sighted government investments in computer education during the 1980s and 1990s. Those long Nordic winters, it turns out, proved perfect for nurturing digital innovation.
Stockholm has emerged as what industry insiders call an "entertainment center," where visual effects, gaming, and music production cross-pollinate in unexpected ways. The city draws talent from across the globe, creating a unique ecosystem where traditional creative boundaries blur and innovation flourishes.
Outro - Future of Dextry and KLASH
Dextry Studios and its team are set to continue doing virtual productions - but with a new focus on motion capture and performance capture since the reconstruction and expansion of the capture stage. With a total upgrade of the production facility’s capabilities and features - along with the integration of Klash at the core of their pipeline - the team’s journey is just beginning with exciting opportunities ahead.
