Labels and metadata
Labels and metadata can help you organize your files and find the files you are looking for. You can filter and search on labels and metadata to find specific files in your projects, for example, Scene, Slate, and Take in movie production. Labels and metadata can be added manually or imported from XML files.
Manually adding labels and metadata
Add labels and metadata manually by the following steps:
Select your file. You can select multiple files by marking an area with the files, or holding down Command on Mac or Shift on Windows when selecting the files.
To create a new label, write the name of the label and click Enter. You can add metadata to the label, for example, label Date, and metadata for today’s date.
Importing metadata from XML files
On KLASH, you have the option to import metadata from an XML file. For example, a Silverstack XML.
The XML import tells you which metadata will be linked to which file on Klash when importing the metadata. It tries to match by the following:
File names excluding local file paths and file extension.
Tape name embedded in the video together with a timecode embedded as a tag, timecode track, or EXIF data.
If any of the above match, the file is populated with the metadata.
Example XML format for importing your metadata into KLASH: Example_XML_KLASH.pdf.
Follow these steps to import your metadata into KLASH:
Upload the XML file into the project where your files are located.
Right-click on the XML file, and click Import as metadata. This will bring up a new window that shows all the files that have imported metadata.
Close the window and select a file. Now you will see the imported metadata for that file in the Details panel.
Search and filter on labels and metadata
With the labels and metadata in place, you will be able to search and filter them:
Navigate to the left side menu and click Search.
Click Filter and then Labels or Metadata.
Pinned metadata
With pinned metadata, you can control what metadata to show on icons in the file overview, and as overlays in the player, for the viewers. Pin metadata by the following steps:
Navigate to the project where you want to pin metadata, and click Settings.
Navigate to the bottom of the page under the Details tab.
Click on the input field under Labels & Metadata, and select the metadata you want to pin from the dropdown menu.
Note: You can only pin metadata that you've already created. The input field under Labels & Metadata will be empty until you've either imported metadata or manually added metadata the first time.
